Giant cane in Oregon? So far, so good, says PGE

In Oregon, the first year trials to grow giant cane that could one day replace coal at Portland General Electric’s power plant in Boardman have been successful. The giant cane has been grown in Florida since the 1820s with up to 60 tons of dry biomass per acre, but this is the first time it’s being grown in Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington.
