Is Indiana waste-to-ethanol project dead?

February 8, 2012 |

In Indiana, the Powers Energy of America planned trash-to-ethanol plant appears to be in freefall after the company’s CEO walked out in the middle of discussions on project financing with Lake County solid waste officials, while those same officials are at risk of losing their jobs over the failing project.

The county’s waste district board has found the company in breach of contract and has given it 60 days to come up with financing for the project, secure the land and show progress towards construction. If that doesn’t happen, the county will terminate its contract with the company.
