Ensus says it will bring back mothballed UK ethanol plant

February 16, 2012 |

In the UK, despite having mothballed the plant in Wilton last May, Ensus still expects its ethanol plant to come back online at some point. The company recently said that market conditions have improved slightly and all 100 employees have been retained at full salary.

Slow implementation of the Renewable Energy Directive including slow approval of voluntary sustainability schemes as well as continued imports of US ethanol through a hole in EU policy remain the issues for continued closure. The EU has begun to tackle the latter, which the company expects will have a positive impact on the industry during the current quarter.
