Uruguay aims for B5 biodiesel mandate in 2012

February 20, 2012 |

In Uruguay, the government is hoping to implement a B5 policy this year but it will depend on the ability to boost domestic biodiesel production. Already a B2 policy exists, but isn’t obligatory, and requires the use of domestic biodiesel.

A plan is underway to develop a biodiesel plant in Montevideo and an ethanol plant in Paysandú for a total investment of $130 million. The B5 policy should be obligatory by 2015.
