Newfoundland and Labrador fund fish oil biodiesel demonstration

February 29, 2012 |

In Canada, the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador will fund the Centre for Aquaculture and Seafood Development to the tune of $89,500 to set up a demonstration scale facility that will produce biodiesel from fish oil. Pilot scale research used salmon and cod oils brought in from outside the province but the next round of research will include the development of processing methodologies to utilize marine waste oils from the salmonid aquaculture, pelagics and the sealing industry as biodiesel feed stocks. The province has already invested $6 million for the past three years of research.
