Codexis, Velocys, Cool Planet join Advanced Biofuels Association

In Washington, Codexis, Velocys, and CoolPlanet have joined the Advanced Biofuels Association, bringing its roster to 40 member companies. “Our members are demonstrating real world success every day by moving advanced replacement fuels from the beaker to the barrel, all in record time, without a lifetime of federally subsidized handouts,” said ABFA President Michael McAdams. The new members are:

Codexis – headquartered in Redwood City, CA, Codexis is creating sustainable chemicals, clean fuels, pharmaceutical processes, and renewable ingredients that make industry more efficient, productive and profitable. Industrial biotechnology from Codexis reengineers enzymes and microorganisms—nature’s catalysts—and puts them to work to solve real global challenges for the world’s largest companies.

Velocys – part of the Oxford Catalysts Group, Velocys is helping to create a better fuel future through innovation in processing technology.  Velocys, Inc. and Oxford Catalysts Ltd, together design, develop and commercialize technology for the production of synthetic oil from waste gas (which would otherwise be flared or reinjected), stranded gas, renewable sources such as waste biomass, as well as coal via Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis, a market that has the potential of producing as much as 25 million barrels of fuel a day.

CoolPlanet Energy Systems – developing revolutionary negative carbon fuels based on plant photosynthesis that absorb carbon from the air. CoolPlanet can make exact replacements for gasoline that will operate in your current cars and, even more advanced superfuels for even higher gas mileage and better performance in future vehicles. CoolPlanetBioFuels division will deploy this technology for the mass production of fuels around the world.
