Qantas schedules first biofuels commercial flight
In Australia, Qantas will conduct Australia’s first biofuel-powered commercial flight next month and hopes to encourage the government to invest in the aviation biofuels industry. The flight will use a 50/50 blend produced by Dutch company Sky-NRG, which has already produced aviation fuels for KLM, LAN Chile, and Etihad.
Planned for April 13, the announcement of the flight comes as Airbus announced last week a consortium with Virgin Australia to study the use of West Australian mallee trees as a feedstock.
