USDA adds 1,500 bio-based products to BioPreferred progrm

In Washington, the USDA released its eighth round of new BioPreferred categories and their minimum biobased content.

This regulatory action added more than 1,500 biobased products to the 8,900 biobased products already eligible for preferred Federal procurement.

The new categories are Blast Media with 94% minimum biobased content, Floor Covererings (non-carpet) at 91%, Wood and Concrete Stains at 39%, Candles and Wax Melts at 88%, Packing and Insulating Materials at 74%, Asphalt and Tar removers at 80%, Asphalt Restorers at 68%, Inks at levels varying from as low as 20% for toner for faster than 25 ppm printers and as high as 67% for sheetfed color printers.
