UK government mulls adding aviation emissions to national carbon targets

April 23, 2012 |

In the UK, Green AIr Online is reporting that the Committee on Climate Change has advised the UK government to include both aviation and marine emissions in the country’s overall 2050 carbon targets.  In part, the new policy, the CCC contends, would add pressure on airlines to meet their self-imposed target of holding industry emissions to 2005 levels by 2050. The CCC also recommended that the government’s emission targets should only be set within the context of EU-wide or international agreements.
