Bonsucro expects to certify sustainability for 30% of world’s sugarcane by 2020

May 15, 2012 |

In the UK, Bonsucro, the only sustainability certification system for sugarcane, expects to certify 5% of the world’s sugarcane in two years and up to a third by 2020. Increased demand by consumers for proof of sustainability has pushed Brazilian mills seeking entry into the EU’s biofuel market as well as users such as Coca Cola to produce and source certified sugar.

About 1 million metric tons of sugarcane is currently certified with more under way.
