Vanguarda Agro transforms from fuels to crops producer in Brazil

June 6, 2012 |

In Brazil, Vanguarda Agro SA expects to make a profit for the first time in 2012 by producing soybeans and corn after biodiesel projects failed. The company is planting soybeans, corn and cotton in an area twice the size of Los Angeles for the increasing Chinese market after selling three biodiesel plants last year.

Vanguarda is transforming itself from a biodiesel producer into a crop producer after a shareholder rift that led Spanish billionaire Enrique Banuelos to leave the company and prompted analysts to drop coverage of the stock.
