Chemtex lands $3.99M USDA grant for North Carolina project

In North Carolina, Chemtex, the engineering and technology division of Italian Grupo Mossi & Ghisolfi, has been awarded $3.996 million by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), under its Biomass Crop Assistance Program, to support the establishment of over 1,620 ha of miscanthus and switchgrass across eleven counties in the state.

The feedstock will be part of the biomass supply for Chemtex’s Project Alpha, a 75.7 million liter cellulosic ethanol biorefinery planned to be built in Sampson County, North Carolina. Operations are expected to start in 2014.
