Argentina files WTO action over Spanish biodiesel import restrictions
In Argentina, the national government has filed a WTO complaint against the European Union over rules imposed by Spain to, in its view, discriminate against low-cost Argentine biodiesel. Back in May, European biodiesel producers celebrated a new lifeline via a market worth 1 million metric tons annually after new regulations implemented on April 20 blocked imports from Argentina and Indonesia, saying that only European biodiesel could qualify for the B7 policy. The country’s biodiesel industry is currently running at just 14% of its capacity.
