EU biodiesel producers seek emergency curbs on alleged Argentina, Indonesia dumping

In Belgium, the secretary general of the European Biodiesel Board, Raffaello Garofalo said that EU biodiesel producers are alleging that Argentina and Indonesia are dumping biodiesel into the EU, and are seeking emergency measures to curb biodiesel imports from those countries.

“Prices of soybeans, the raw material, are more expensive in Europe than biodiesel imported from Indonesia and Argentina,”  Garafallo told Reuters. . “It’s like saying steel costs more than a car. It’s impossible to compete.”The EBB has pointed to imports from those countries. which have risen to more than 90 percent of total biodiesel imports into the EU, after being at nominal levels as recently as 2008.
