Brazilian gas exports predicted to rise 350% by 2020 as ethanol industry stagnates

In Brazil, gasoline imports are expected to rise at least 350% by 2020, according to a government study prepared at the request of President Dilma Rousseff. The reasons behind the spike in imports is expected to be a failing sugar-cane ethanol production industry combined with a 4.5% growth rate in fuel consumption. Ethanol production in the country fell 15% between 2010 and 2011 and has been underperforming since, according to an article in the Latin American Herald Tribune.
