High corn prices forcing Abengoa to idle Illinois plant

In Illinois, Spanish company Abengoa SA has decided to idle its ethanol plant in Madison due to poor production margins. With an 88 million gallon annual ethanol production capacity, the plant’s margins are suffering due to high corn prices following the record U.S. drought. The company is using the idle period to work on maintenance and is unsure of when the plant will go back online.
