BP’s planned Florida ethanol plant comes back to life

October 3, 2012 |

In Florida, construction on BP’s proposed ethanol plant in Brighton, Highlands County, may still be not yet ready to start, but local government officials and businesses are seeing changes that indicate the project may soon finally begin after 4 years of discussion.

BP has filed plans and started construction on its offices in nearby Lake Placid and roadwork has begun on a turn lane into the Brighton plant property.

An official from BP Biofuels in Houston has sent inquiries to the city’s tourism director asking for assistance in securing catering services for 600 people at the plant as well as realtors and rental agencies. BP Biofuels North America communications clarified that these activities are part of normal due diligence and the project is still in the planning and design phase, taking up to 18 months for the 36 million gallon facility to be operational.
