King Charles III’s Aston Martin runs on wine and cheese waste

April 3, 2023 |

In London, ranking royal King Charles III has retrofitted his favorite car—a very relatable vintage Aston Martin—to run on wine and cheese waste.

His Highness is known to be both an environmentalist and car enthusiast, and, Mental Floss reports, his ride runs on E85, with the 15% bioethanol content made from fermented whey. Because the king is patriotic, the whey in question originates from production of English white wine, but whether the cheese whey originates from a pungent British Stilton, tinklemore, or more modern Stinking Bishop was unclear.

Charlese ascended to the throne in September following the over 70-plus-year reign of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. His other earth-friendly projects include biomass boilers at Birkhall, solar panels at Clarence House, and efforts to boost the wool industry. PETA has also requested His Grace ditch animal fur at his upcoming coronation, but official response is pending.
