Vietnam government developing 5% biofuels mandates by 2015

October 3, 2012 |

In Vietnam, the government is developing a plan to promote biofuels production and consumption. Submitted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the plan will include 5% mandatory biofuel use in some big cities. The country currently has only 150 pump stations offering biofuels and low demand is attributed to consumers’ lack of understanding of its benefits. The plan includes increased production of ethanol and biodiesel to 1.8 million tons through 2015 with a vision to expand the plan to 2025. To meet the future demand created by a mandate, the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) is already constructing three new ethanol factories for a combined capacity of 300 million liters per year.
