Georgia ethanol plant to idle due to high corn prices

October 22, 2012 |

In Georgia, ethanol production has been temporarily halted at the Southwest Georgia Sole Ethanol Plant until further notice due to the drought in the Midwest which has caused corn prices to rise. In an effort to save money, the company has announced it will no longer purchase corn in 2012. The company came out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier in 2012 and insists that it is in good financial shape despite the need to idle its plant. The company has no current plans to lay off staff.
