Plans for Kenana sugar refinery in Port Sudan move forward

In Sudan, the Ministry of Industry expressed its full support of the sugar refinery planned by Kenana and Italian company, Aradanie, in Port Sudan. The Minister of Industry believes the refinery will allow the country to produce 10 million tons of sugar per year, allowing it to meet local demand and export surplus by 2014. In Sudan, the sugar industry supports energy and ethanol production, fodder, dairy, and meat. The plant has reached the final design stage and funding negotiations have progressed with the Preferential Trade Area Bank (PTA) and the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah, among others.
