SCA invests $73.8 million in biofuel-based lime kiln

October 23, 2012 |

In Sweden, SCA has decided to invest approximately $73.8 million in a new lime kiln at the kraftliner mill in Munksund. The new lime kiln will substitute oil with biofuel, which will lead to annual cost savings of approximately $7.5 million and reduce fossil carbon dioxide emissions by 75%. The lime kiln is expected to be put in operation in fall 2014. At the end of 2011 SCA inaugurated the world’s first biofuel-fired lime kiln at Östrand’s pulp mill in Sweden.
