Petrobras explores residual fish oil as feedstock for biodiesel

In Brazil, Petrobras and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the production of biodiesel from residual fish oil. Brazil aims for expansion of fishing activity and trade to 2 million tons of fish by 2014. Petrobras is currently in a partnership pilot project conducted with Biopeixe fish farmers. President of Petrobras Biofuel, Miguel Rossetto, said of the project: “We will support the development of a new alternative supply and also contribute to the recovery of waste fishing activity in the production of biofuels.”
