BNSF to drop freight rates on new Nebraska rail purchase

In Nebraska, BNSF is buying the Nebraska Northeastern Railway, a 120-mile line that connects Siouxland Ethanol LLC in Jackson; NEDAK Ethanol in Atkinson; and Husker Ag Inc. in Plainview. Husker transports about 85% of its production on the line. BNSF has said that freight rates will drop and it expects to upgrade line to boost speeds to 25MPH from the current 10MPH in some areas.
