Termite bacteria may hold clue to better biofuels
In Australia, University of Western Australia student Ghislaine Small, working out of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology, has identified new, previously unknown bactera from Western Australia’s nativa Tumulitermes westraliensis termite. Small also tested Coptotermes acinaciformis, a notoriuos pest termite. Fellow researchers have indicated interest in testing the bacteria for useful properties in biofuels production.
