Biofuels Digest’s 2012 Consumer Product of the Year (biofuels) – Solazyme, Propel Fuels – renewable diesel

December 31, 2012 |

BD-2012-AwardsLast month, Propel Fuels and Solazyme partnered to offer Solazyme’s algae-based SoladieselBD to drivers through Propel’s Bay Area network of retail renewable fuel locations. In a one-month pilot, The fuel was sold at the same price as conventional diesel fuels at Propel’s Clean Fuel Points in Redwood City, San Jose (N. First St.), Berkeley, and Oakland.

It’s not biodiesel – its a drop-in renewable diesel — Solazyme’s algae-based SoladieselBD meets or exceeds ASTM quality specifications and has shown performance enhancements including cold temperature operating performance. The fuel is compatible with existing diesel engines and the fuel’s performance is guaranteed by Propel.

However, this award is not just about a fuel. It’s about an experience. We’ve long admired what Propel is doing to change the experience at the pump – not only in what goes into the car, but how the entire experience is handled from station design right through to branding and pump technology.
