Record Japanese imports of U.S. DDGS in 2012 expected to increase

January 1, 2013 |

In Japan, imports of U.S. dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) reached an all-time high in 2012. According to the U.S. Grains Council, Japan imported more than 384,000 metric tons of DDGS from January to October and is expected to reach 450,000 metric tons. The rise in demand is due to the lower fat DDGS due to corn oil extraction. As long as U.S. ethanol and DDGS rebound, the volume is expected to increase.
