New North Carolina law treats cooking oil theft like any other crime

In North Carolina, new legislation has gone into effect that treats stealing used cooking oil as any other theft. Under the new law, anyone caught stealing used cooking oil will be charged with a misdemeanor and anyone caught with over $1,000 worth of used oil will be charged with a felony. This marks a dramatic change in prosecution as siphoning used oil from restaurant storage barrels has increased in recent years with little punishment.
