Palm oil expansion in not sustainable, say researchers in Nature

In Malaysia and Indonesia, researchers publishing in Nature have concluded that the conversion of peat swamps to palm oil tree cultivation is releasing what they consider to be potentially unsustainable levels of carbon.

Indonesia has plans to double palm oil cultivation 2030 and Malaysian palm oil developer FGV chalked up $3.2B in its massive IPO last year, based on a plan to expand cultivation by 800 percent by 2020, including expanding operations to Cambodia and Indonesia.
