South African student develops new method for cellulosic ethanol production

In South Africa, a student at Stellenbosch University has discovered a new method to identify the best varieties of sugarcane for ethanol production based on their fiber content. He found that 90% of carbohydrates could be extracted from new cane varieties while just 72% could be extracted from varieties currently on the market.
