India’s Karnataka State expands biofuels projects to advance agriculture

In India, Karnataka State Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar announced projects in Hombelaku and Hongirana — to decentralise biofuel extraction units and sell plant saplings used to produce biofuels, seeds, biofuel, de-oiled cakes, etc, along with disseminating information on biofuel.

Karnataka State had previously set up a Biofuel Task Force in 2008, established a Biofuel Policy in 2009 and launched the Biofuel Development Board in 2010. In the latest project, women’s self-help groups will be provided with oil extraction units as well as funds to buy seeds for crushing.
