Kyrgyzstan MP seeks to loosen grip on ethanol monopoly

April 2, 2013 |

In Kyrgyzstan, an MP has suggested loosening the requirements for companies to receive an ethanol production license in order to allow more private sector participation in the industry which is currently operating as a monopoly. The MP has suggested a minimum of 132,000 gallons of production, rather than the existing minimum of 264,200 gallons of production. It wasn’t clear if the production figures were based on production per day or per year. If the minimum requirements were lower, six plants could come online immediately.
