In Washington, the Energy Information Agency says that alternative fuel use increased 124% between 2007 and 2011, led by biodiesel whose use soared 240% during that period. About 187% of that figure representing 9.5 billion gallons of diesel equivalent was in 2011, boosted by the reinstatement of the biodiesel blending credit. Increased use of E85 also saw ethanol figures jump by 52% between 2010 and 2011.
