May 6, 2013 |

In Ireland, Research and Markets has added “The Global Market for Nanocellulose to 2017” report to their offerings. Their release states that cellulose has only recently gained prominence as a nanostructured material, in the form of nanocrystalline cellulose, micro/nanofibrillar cellulose and bacterial cellulose. Applications in polymer reinforcement and anti-microbial films will be hitting the market soon.

FP Innovations estimates the market to be worth $250 million in North America by 2020. A number of manufacturing facilities have or are being built that will increase production to upwards of multiple tons per day. Production has increased by 1000% in two years and will likely increase by a further 500% at least by 2017.
