EU’s ILUC proposals seen as a no-go for WTO

May 7, 2013 |

In Belgium, the European Centre for International Political Economy told EurActiv that the proposed ILUC factors for biofuels constitute discrimination in the eyes of the WTO. They say discrimination can’t be justified on the grounds that biofuels coming from outside the EU cause environmental damage because neither the EU nor anyone else can determine the ILUC effects, and because by their inherent nature, the effects are indirect and not caused by the biofuels that would be sold on the European market.
