Illinois ethanol industry pushing for E15 tax breaks rather than E10

May 28, 2013 |

In Illinois, the state’s ethanol industry is pushing for a policy change that would see a 10% tax break on E15 in exchange for dropping the current 20% tax break on E10, something which proponents argue will raise state tax revenue $500 million over the next five years while boosting demand for ethanol that would lead to more jobs and investment. They say that E10 sales are so common place now that they don’t need the financial incentive, something which is killing demand for E15.
