Florida repeals E10 ethanol mandate

June 3, 2013 |

In Florida, Governor Rick Scott signed a HB 4001 into law, repealing the state’s 10 percent ethanol mandate. “I think the movement for freedom of choice at the pump just got a full tank of gas,” Gaetz told The Florida Current on Friday.

The bill does not impact federal ethanol blending obligations stemming from the Renewable Fuel Standard, and is not expected to change the fuel mix for Florida drivers.

However, Bob Dinneen, President and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, and Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy, commented, “It is sad to watch a state legislate away good paying jobs in the renewable energy sector and the abundant economic opportunities that come along with them. This bill isn’t worth the paper it is printed on given that the federal Renewable Fuel Standard supersedes any state law. This toothless legislation has closed the door on job creation by the biofuels industry and sent investors packing for more visionary states. This is most definitely a lost opportunity for the people of Florida.”
