FAO Save and Grow Program Increases Cassava Yield by 400 percent

In Rome, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has published a field guide detailing its environmentally-friendly farming model called Save and Grow. The program can sustainably increase cassava yields by up to 400 percent for smallholder farmers. It achieves higher yields through improved soil health, mixed cropping and crop rotation, and has been successful in Vietnam, Colombia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. With growing demand for cassava as an ethanol feedstock, the Save and Grow program offers many opportunities to farmers.
