Malaysia’s National Biomass Strategy 2020 unfolds

In Malaysia, the country’s National Biomass Strategy 2020 is beginning to unfold, with the launch of National Biomass Strategy 2020 v2.0 at Palmex 2013 in Tawau, and the announcement of Malaysia’s first ligno-cellulosic bio-ethanol pilot plant in Tawau by Teck Guan Group in collaboration with Mitsui and Inbicon.

In addition, last week Malaysia launched a Biomass JV Cluster in Lahad Datu, a ‘biomass-owner owned’ collaboration in Lahad Datu to mobilize biomass for high value activities. Participants in the cluster include Genting Plantations, Bell Group, Teck Guan Group and others. So far 12 mills are collaborating with each other and another 28 are expected to join in the next 6 months.
