Paris Air Show, World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology open with big biobased programs

In France, the Paris Air Show kicks off this week with a special aviation biofuels exhibition coordinated by CAAFI, the Civil Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative, that has attracted companies such as Amyris, Lanzatech, Sapphire Energy, Solena Fuels, and TOTAL, as well as a group from Washington State University.

Among the presenters in a robust program: CAAFI, Direction Générale de l’AviationCivile France, the US Department of Comemrce, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the Air Transport Action Group, Aireg (Germany), Aisaf (Australia), and Bioqueroseno (Spain).

Public/private national and international initiatives to develop and deploy sustainable aviation fuels will come under the microscope — and public/private collaborations and the progress toward goals of Carbon neutral growth by the next decade.

In Canada, the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) kicks off its annual World Congress of Industrial Biotechnology today in Montreal. It’s the The BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology is the world’s largest industrial biotechnology event for business leaders, investors, and policy makers in biofuels, biobased products, and renewable chemicals.

Today on the plenary program: A Regional Approach to a Global Biobased Economy, with heads of industry discussing current industrial biotech trends in their regions and policies driving business development or hindering growth in this sector. Later in the day: Feeding Next Generation Biorefineries in 2013: Biotech feedstock producers and experts in the field will discuss the progress in deploying conventional and novel feedstocks around the world, and what challenges feedstock providers face as they attempt to build and expand a marketplace for biobased raw materials.
