Florida county returns to biodiesel production on back of state law change

July 17, 2013 |

In Florida, Alachua County has returned to biodiesel production after the state legislature passed a bill that exempted counties, school districts and cities from holding a fuel wholesaler license when the fuel was for internal use. The county makes biodiesel at about $2 a gallon for use in its garbage trucks, compared to $3.50 it would have to pay normally, but fuel production stopped in December because of the fuel wholesaler license requirement.
