S2G BioChem looking at southern Alberta sugarbeets as bio-glycol feedstock

August 5, 2013 |

In Canada, S2G BioChem is looking to set up a sugarbeet-based bio-glycol facility in southern Alberta, which the local beet industry is looking at as a major opportunity to further develop the crop that is currently served by only one sugar factory in the province. The facility would demand beet from 20,000 more acres, bringing local production close to the 50,000 acres that was farmed in 2008 but has since fallen to just 24,000 acres. S2Gā€™s technology is already being tested at pilot scale at the University of British Columbia and with corn glucose feedstock in China.
