UK seeks extradition of former biofuel company chairman from Cambodia

August 27, 2013 |

In Cambodia, the UK government is seeking extradition of Gregg Fryett, former chairman of Sustainable Agro Energy, the company that sought to produce jatropha for biodiesel but that the UK’s Serious Fraud Office claims swindled UK investors of $35.8 million. Earlier this month the SFO brought fraud and bribery charges against four other company agents and will be brought to court on Sept. 23 in Westminster. Though Fryett was not among those four, the UK government is seeking his extradition. It is thought that Fryett is in jail in Cambodia after being arrested in February for alleged forgery of land documents related to the jatropha project. The company sought to purchase 6,079 hectares in Svay Chek district from the deputy prime minister’s wife via an agent.
