Biofuels investment to top $11.5B by 2020 if gov’t policies stay in place

September 2, 2013 |

In Colorado, Navigant has released a new study that estimates 129 GW by 2020, with the Asia-Pacific and Latin America regions picking up production. The study, which expands on earlier assertions that estimated investment would top $69B over the next ten years as revenues hit $7.6B by 2023, predicts that revenues will reach $11.5B annually by 2020. The study assumes that incentivized government policies will stay consistent until the turn of the decade. The study also concludes that biopower is likely to remain a subsidy-dependent enterprise in many markets, due to logistical issues with handling and transportation, plus poor energy density in comparison to fossil fuels.
