Iowa State study says investing in E85 infrastructure cheaper than RINs

September 23, 2013 |

In Iowa, a new study from Iowa State University says it would be cheaper for companies to purchase E85 infrastructure than it would be for them to buy RINs in order to comply with their RFS requirements. Investment in getting 2,500 gas stations ready to supply E85, which would boost demand by up to 1 billion gallons per year, would cost oil companies by $1.75 billion in 2014 if the EPA sets the blending mandate at 13.9 billion gallons.
