Real dialogue on the real biofuels issues

October 9, 2013 |

ABLC13-audienceThis morning in San Francisco, approximately 120 national and global leaders in the bioeconomy will gather for a special workshop that precedes the official opening of ABLC-Next.

The goal: real dialogue by real players on the real issues.

We’ll be conversing not through the drizzle of Powerpoints and the amiable chatter of networking socials — industry veterans will be fostering the dialogue: Paul Bryan (former DOE Biomass Program manager), DLA Piper partner John Pierce (one of the original forces behind the formation of the Algae Biomass Organization) and Wes Bolsen (now heading global strategic partnerships at Cool Planet).

But every leader will take part — debate priorities — suggest outcomes.

The issues abound. Yesterday’s history. What’s next?

What about E15 or other efforts to expand market access? What about RFS stability? What about RIN prices? What about the backup in approval times for new fuels? What about the logjam in financing? What about the status of biobased chemicals, of new feedstocks? What’s working in incentives – what’s not? Are there too many pilots and demos, or too few? Is there enough attention paid to supply chain and logistics?

ABLC2013

We’ll look at surviving government chaos int he short term, financing in the mid-term, and market-building for the long-term.

We’ll be looking for gaps worth closing, common perspectives worth building on, outreach efforts worth making.
