US ethanol production hits 22-month high but advanced biofuels fall by half

November 19, 2013 |

In Washington, the EPA says ethanol production in the US hit a 22-month high in October as lower corn prices led to increased margins. October’s ethanol production topped 1.16 billion gallons. Interestingly, production of advanced biofuel RINs—mostly sugarcane ethanol— slipped in October to just under 30 million gallons, a fall of 50% on the month.

While nearly 79% of the corn ethanol RINs have been generated for the year, just 32% of the advanced biofuel RINs have been generated, but those can be replaced with biomass biodiesel D4 RINs if need be.
