Maine cellulosic ethanol company preparing to take technology commercial

In Maine, Old Town Fuel and Fiber is waiting for the sign off from the DOE to go ahead and develop a commercial scale facility using its wood waste-to-cellulosic ethanol technology. The company has been running a pilot facility at the town’s paper plant, thanks to a $30 million DOE grant to further develop the technology. Skeptical environmental groups doubt there is enough wood waste available without additional logging to supply a larger facility.
