In New York state, Fox River Valley Ethanol—formerly known as Utica Energy but recently purchased by Ace Ethanol—began grinding corn for ethanol production on Oct. 1. Utica Energy was foreclosed in December 2012 with $30 million in debt but Ace Ethanol paid $16.5 million this summer for the 50 million gallon ethanol plant, doubling the company’s total ethanol production to 100 million gallons.
