Hu Hanua reports that construction slowed on Pepe`ekeo power plant
In Hawaii, Hu Hanua Bioenergy’s website reports that it has had to slow down construction work and push out the construction schedule six months at its Pepe`ekeo power plant. HHB reports that the delay was so that it could wait until it has received permits and approvals that are pending. The plant is being refurbished to change it from a former coal burning plant to a biomass burning plant.
As part of the conversion, HHB reports that the turbine and turbine generator refurbishment is completed, and is expected to produce as much as 21.5 MWe for the Hawaiian Electric Light Company, supplied principally by burning eucalyptus biomass. At this point, HHB reports that it expects to have the facility operational in the final quarter of 2014.
